I have another question for you guys.
As you all have undoubtedly noticed, I like to use RBTL to experiment. I like to mix up my styles and tones and POVs. I like writing angst and fluff and family stuff and character studies and dialogue and no dialogue. Since the beginning, through 32 chapters and over 1000 reviews (I can't quite believe it), there is one thing that always makes me laugh.
Whenever I post angst, I get like fifteen reviews or PMs asking for fluff. And when I post fluff, I get feedback asking when I'm going to post angst. I can't really change the tone of what I post. When I'm feeling the angst, I write angst and when I'm feeling the fluff, I write fluff.
I don't really find Alice and Jasper to be a very cutesy couple and when I write fluff, I try to still maintain my characterizations and character development. I've read a lot of really stupid fluff is my point, so I may shy away from it a bit more as I don't want to cross that line. I don't really have a preference on what I like to read. As long as it's well-written, I can deal with pretty much any kind of fic.
So my question for you is...angst or fluff? Do you even have a preference or does it depend on your mood or the pairing or the author?
Bonus question: Why, when I post an angst chapter do people forget that the previous one was (often) fluff and vice versa?
:)

preference? depends on my mood and how well the author writes them. in your case, i'll read whatever you decide to post next. fluff...angst...character study...etc. i think the diversity of RBTL is yet another aspect that makes it such a good fic! =) just keep doing what you're doing...there are some people who'll ask you for opposite of what you just wrote, but then there are the others who appreciate whatever you're going to offer out for reading. write for them and write for yourself. =)

Yeah, I'm not complaining about the people who ask for something else, I just think it's a funny trend. I try to keep it reasonably balanced and honestly...angst or fluff, the review count is usually the same. I just think it's interesting that some readers tend to vehemently prefer one over the other. When I posted chapter 31...the one where they were laying in bed playing the game...crap...Oh, This Years Love (stupid song titles...lol), I got more than a couple reviews that said something like, "I have read the whole story and this is the first I had to review because it was so cute!" Just weird to me since I've never had a preference.
And thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you like the variety. :)
i think its VERY interesting that some people didnt review until chapter 31! 31 was adorable...it was a 'feel-good' read... but there are 30 chapters before it that include a few feel-goods also...hmm. something to ponder i guess.
i know what you mean about the no preference thing. you said somewhere that you're more about good writing rather than the genre of it...im right there with you!
and no problem. thanks for the amazing writing![i feel like i over-use 'amazing' & 'awesome' when writing to you haha]
have a good day brynna =)

And your kind of fluff is not uber-cheesy or cliché fluff. Your fluff is the kind of fluff that melts your heart and makes you feel all warm inside. Which is the best kind.
Also you have kind of mastered the art of writing angst too. The angsty emotions you write is so complex and yet still oh-so heart wrenching and you can get while reading, what the character feels like (I'm mostly talking about the way you write Jasper here).
So yeah, again, the best kind of fics is, in my mind, stories that mix both of angst and fluff. Flangst. xD
Glad my brand of fluff works for you. I tend to like writing angst more because I can get into the more complex emotions but fluff can be fun too.
Flangst...I'm going to remember that. :)
Question one: People are 1. impatient. And that's why when you write Fluff we want Angst and when you write Fluff we want Angst. Maybe us (readers) just don't want you to do 100% fluff and so we remind you to write Angst?
Personally, as long as it's well written, in character, and not angst or fluff all the time I'm happy! (I've also really liked the 'younger' chapters. Before they join the Cullens).
Question two: oops. I think I answered both in answer for question one.
Before I let you go I hope you don't change anything!! I love everything that you write, and the recent fluff has been sooo fun and the angst has been beautiful! The balance is great, but you are leaning towards the angst side. ...I think.
Your icon is awesome, btw. :)
Aww, thanks! It's a quote from an online parody of Prince Caspian.
I must see this parody. Do you have a link?
Okay, the icon is from this batch. And the parody thread is Here
The perfect example of what I like is one of your recent chapters, 31 I think? The one titled This Years Love, which I remember because that's my favorite David Gray song. But anyway! That was absolutely perfect, and wasn't overly done. I think you have a perfect balance of fluff and angst, or "flangst" as someone said above me. Sorry this is so long winded.. I just wanted to put in my two cents. :) I do love your writing and you tend to pick my favorite songs for chapter titles, which is always a plus.
Part of why I started writing Alice and Jasper and especially the more nuanced, darker Alice and Jasper was because of the huge amount of OOC fluff at the time. You are right, some of it is unforgivably cheesy. I have a couple of fluff chapters planned in a row here after the darkness that was chapter 34 so hopefully you fluff fans will enjoy it.
And I'm glad that you liked chapter 31. That was a fun one to write. Actually every chapter title is a song. I just like kind of obscure music so it might not be immediately obvious. :)
